ChosenVIP.com - The (Anti) Social Networking Site

The difference between ChosenVIP and all those other networking sites is that the former doesn’t let you join willy nilly and make all sorts of friends, just like that. This isn’t a network for anyone and it’s certainly not meant for everyone. Think of it as an exclusive club; if you haven’t been chosen, then, tough luck, this site is all about the elite. Ok, so it’s not so entirely out of reach; anyone can create a profile. Those with higher ratings can create their own circle of friends from the site; those who have become VIPs get access to private chats and forums, they get to bestow ratings on other members and they’re eligible to win prizes. If you’re not chosen, you can still receive kudos from the VIPs and you can play with your profile until you distinguish yourself enough to be noticed by the VIPS.

In their own words:
“ChosenVIP is a free, exclusive online community that gives the average person an opportunity to become an "e-celebrity." Anyone will be able to sign up and create a highly customizable html profile. ChosenVIP is the biggest party on the internet!
ChosenVIP members can create their own cliques from friends throughout the site. Through our unique rating system you can distinguish yourself from others and earn the acclaimed VIP status. Non-VIPs earn kudos from current VIP members. ChosenVIP VIP members decide who will join them in the VIP and who will not. When you have obtained VIP Status you can work to become the number one guy or girl on the entire site. VIP members will be privileged and receive distinctive features from their Non-VIP counterparts. VIP privileges include VIP only chat and forum access/privileges, deciding who joins you in the VIP, the ability to rate other VIP members and be rated, be ranked for others to see, eligibility to win contests and prizes and much more.
Why this might be a killer:
This takes celebrity status to a new dimension. It gives members a feeling of privilege and prestige; it’s most likely going to attract a handful of young attractive model types, which everyone loves to drool over anyways.

Some questions:
Hmm, isn’t the point of social networking supposed to be that you can meet new people and share your photos, stories, videos, etc.? Isn’t ChosenVIP going against the whole 2.0 vibe? Isn’t this sort of elitism rather gimmicky and unappealing? Really, who wants to be part of some faux celebrity club?
